Hospice and palliative care is a holistic approach to caring for patients going through the last stages of their lives.

It aims to meet all needs (physical, emotional, psychosocial and spiritual) so
as to alleviate suffering and maximise quality of life for patients and their loved ones.

In celebration of International Women's Day, the Lien Foundation commissioned a short film titled After Cicely, profiling 5 inspiring women from Asia who have spent their lives helping families in pain. The film was directed by Ms Jean Loo and Ms Yang Hui Wen, the duo behind creative agency, Logue. Watch this film at www.aftercicely.com.

Recently, Ms Candice Neo, an Undergraduate at the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (Nanyang Technological University) profiled Dr R Akhileswaran (affectionately known as Dr Akhilesh) and his work in palliative care for which he is passionate about. On 4 Oct 2012, members of Rotary Club – Pandan Valley branch brought in musician/composer Mr Jess Wang Chu to Bright Vision Hospital where they celebrated 2 patients’ birthday and dedicated songs to both staff and patients at BVH. The song “柴米油盐酱醋茶” 一点一滴都是幸福在发芽…depicted how drops of essences and flavors just like the food ingredients, nurtured one’s life and
well-being.

Celebrities in a pole-dancing face-off for charities!

Irene Ang (aka Mrs Rosie Phua Chu Kang) will be pole-dancing for Singapore Hospice Council. She faces Hossan Leong and Ms Tan Kheng Hua who are dancing for their respective, chosen charities.

The Lien Foundation, Singapore Hospice Council and adamsapple, a local design company, launched an 80-page coffee table book that chronicles the last months of eight terminally ill patients. Titled 'Departure, Living before Leaving', the year-long 'labour of love' is the voluntary work of four established photographers.

Proceeds from the book sales will go to the Singapore Hospice Council. Two thousand copies in English have been printed and will be sold at $40 each.
